Exchange programs with Turkey

The Institute for Economics has ERASMUS Bilateral Agreements with four Turkish universities:

  • Akdeniz University (Antalya)
  • Erciyes University (Kayseri)
  • Istanbul Bilgi University (Istanbul)
  • Yildiz Technical University (Istanbul)

The student exchange with each universities contains two students for one semester (five months).

Applications:

The deadline for applications is January, 31st for the winter semester of the same year and the summer semester of the following year. If there are places and finance left, applicants could also be nominated later on. If you are therefore interested in one of these programmes, please contact Prof. Jürgen Kähler, i. R. Ph.D (Senior Professor of Economics) in order to get further information.

Preconditions for applicants are that they must be enrolled at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with the aim to get a degree for the whole period of the ERASMUS exchange and that the first year studying at the FAU has been completed when the ERASMUS exchange starts. Furthermore, applicants should not have taken part in an ERASMUS students exchange before. Non-German students can also apply. However, they should signal their interest early because further questions have to be considered (e.g. the residence title in Germany and the application for a visa in Turkey).

Please send a letter of motivation, a CV, a recent copy of your grades from Mein Campus and other relevant documents (in copy) to Prof. Jürgen Kähler, i. R. Ph.D (Senior Professor of Economics). You will then be invited to a personal application interview.

The criteria for being nominated are performance and grades of the applicant, proficiency in English and/or the language of the guest university, and that the selected modules at the guest university fit into the study programme at the FAU. Most courses at the Istanbul Bilgi University are in English, the modules of the other three universities are mainly in Turkish, but they are offering increasingly modules in English. Students with a sound knowledge of Turkish could enhance there their knowledge on an academic level. Wether a student exchange with English modules is feasible has to be checked individually.

Next Steps:

The nomination for the winter semester takes place until the end of April and until the middle of October for the summer semester of the following year. Exchange students also have to apply for admission at the guest university. This is an administrative step, not an additional election procedure. The dates for application at the different Turkish partner universities are:

  • Istanbul Bilgi University: June 1 (for the following winter semester) and November 1 (for the following summer semester)
  • Akdeniz University: June 15. and November 23
  • Erciyes University: August 1. and December 1
  • Yildiz University: August 15 and January 15
